Botanicals is a sub-brand project of cbdMD, and consisted of a line of skincare products. The branding cbdMD Botanicals was to be a very different styling as the target audience was very different as well. As lead designer for this project, I was able to take control of the branding and create a more minimalistic and clean brand style to get across our key message of this line being a clean beauty line.
A big part of branding consists of competitor analysis. Doing this helped to gauge what was out on the market, and what consumers were responding to best. After assessing what is working with other companies and what is not, it helps guide the process of turning the current vision into something that is as marketable and on trend as possible.
Below is the sitemap that was the first step in building the website. From the brand guide our team built a “pattern library” in adobe, that consisted of the web safe colors to use, along with other elements such as H1, H2, H3, Body copy, buttons, etc., all which had to have tablet and mobile versions of these elements as well. Creating a pattern library ensures consistency among elements throughout the site to keep a cohesive feel, and doesn’t allow the design to stray from the brand manual.
A large part of front end development is making sure that the site will be fully responsive and look good on different platforms. This also comes into play when thinking about how complicated a design will be to code responsively. Spots like this is where a basic knowledge of HTML/CSS come into play. I believe this has been a key element for me in my position when designing webpages and when building this website.
